Genesis 1:26 - Helping God

Should I buy one or not? A bird feeder for goldfinches? I'll have to buy one of those shepherd's crook things to hang it in my yard. And then there's the thistle seed to buy. Is it worth it?

After all, God's eye is on the sparrow, so I'm sure He can feed the goldfinches, too--without my help. God can do anything and everything without my help. I'm not indispensable.

Then again, in Genesis God put people in charge of taking care of the earth including "the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground." (Genesis 1:26, New Living Translation).

Hey, I've loved goldfinches since I was a kid and had one as a pet. So I bought a finch feeder yesterday. I wonder if God enjoys feeding wild birds as much as I do. I suspect He enjoys it more so.

And if God wants me to help Him take care of creation, how much more to help share His truth and love with people?

"For we are God’s fellow workers... And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain. We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." (1 Corinthians 3:9; 2 Corinthians 6:1, 5:20 New American Standard)

God, You don't need us to take care of the world around us, but You want us to.
Thank you for the privilege of working with You: all the way from feeding finches, to sharing Your grace with people we meet today. Amen.
