Psalm 56:8 - Charting
I know a fellow pastor who was a hospice chaplain for a while after he retired. But after decades of ministering to people and not having to write everything down, the paper work did him in; he quit being a chaplain.
I can't blame him. Paperwork is onerous to me. I hate filling out taxes. I detest filling out insurance forms. So you can guess how much I welcome charting my patient visits.
As I thought of what others on the hospice team deal with every day, I figured that paperwork isn't your favorite task, either.
And then I thought of this verse:
Psalm 56:8 (New American Standard)
You have taken account of my wanderings (ESV: "tossings")
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
God has the names of His children, recorded in the "Lamb's Book of Life." (Revelation 13:8; 21:27, Cp. 20:12).
He also keeps an ongoing record of our lives.
He's not just looking to document our blunders.
God is particularly concerned when we toss and turn at night; when we shed a tear.
God is charting.
Lord, If you care so much to keep track of our daily ups and downs, give us grace to help You in keeping track of others as well. Amen.
