Romans 8:28 - Unraveled
Roman 8:28 (New Living Translation) "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."
Last night, things weren't "working together" -- namely my desktop computer and my laptop were sulking. They wouldn't cooperate with the tasks I had for them, and they weren't on speaking terms. Then my backspace key decided to stick. Imagine typing a paragraph and someone holds down your backspace key while you watch the words evaporating ...in reverse.
We all have days like that where things unravel, they fall apart. Computers, software, dinner menus, vacation plans, work schedules, family members, simply running errands--things don't always cooperate and "work together."
Is that what God guarantees, though?
Well, eventually, everything works together toward a purpose.
And that purpose is given in the following verse:
"For God knew his people in advance and he chose them to become like His Son..."
I'd like to tell you how my IT problems are making me more like Jesus. I don't know. Maybe God's teaching me more patience. I just know that I need to pray in keeping with this verse:
Lord, when my day unravels and things just aren't falling into place like I planned, give me humility to admit that I don't see the bigger picture. Give me contentment that somehow, You are pulling all the frayed threads of my life into making me more like Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
