Isaiah 43:1 & John 10:3 - Theft-proof Identity
My official Sanford Healthcare name is 839047235.
Not exactly, but my user name really is just nine digits. I have to use it countless times in a week, multiple times for each time I do charting on a patient, multiple times just to check my e-mail. Granted the system also has my birth name, but having to sign in with a nine-digit "user name" makes me feel like a bit of machinery sometimes.
If you experience "identity theft," they don't rob you of the name on your birth certificate. They want numbers--starting with your Social Security number.
No wonder a person can feel like "just a number." One, nameless number among the 7.8 billion people currently living on the earth. And counting.
But God says,
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine!” (Isaiah 43:1 New American Standard, 1995). Yes, that was written to Israel's descendants, but it applies to all believers.
Jesus reiterated this promise:
“To him the doorkeeper opens [to the Good Shepherd], and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” (John 10:3, NASB)
Thank You, Lord God, that You know me by name because You know me. I want to have ears that hear Your voice when You call me by name. In Jesus' own name I pray, Amen.
