Ephesians 1:18 - New Glasses

I recently got new glasses. The progressive lenses are shaped differently enough from my old glasses that I had to go back for an adjustment--just so I could see more clearly. A small tweak to the nose piece was sufficient to make the focus much sharper.

Of course, all that was for naught when I went swimming later in the day. I don't wear my glasses to walk to the local pool for swimming laps, so when I sign the sign-in sheet, I can barely see the letters. I use muscle memory more than sight. So who knows what I'm writing!

Discussing the change in glasses with my daughter, she was wondering if I had ever considered LASIK eye surgery so I could dispense with glasses altogether.

Something can be right in front of someone, but if their eyes don't focus properly on their own, it's all a blur. It could be something that could bring them great sorrow or great joy and they wouldn't know it. They need something: surgery, glasses, contacts--anything that will "open their eyes" to the world around them.

Spiritually speaking, we need the eyes of our heart to see God and all He has for us. That's why we pray with Paul:

"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints..." Amen.
(Ephesians 1:18, New American Standard Bible)
