Psalm 33:18 - Big Brother Is Watching
Have you ever been stalked by someone, if not literally with binoculars or a telescope, or someone lurking outside your house, then maybe someone stalking online to find out what they can from the internet?
Or perhaps someone who seems to be looking over your shoulder all the time, just waiting for you to mess up so they can report it to others?
King David had plenty of enemies, including a father-in-law that wanted to pin him to the wall with a spear. His psalms describe it in verses like:
"They attack, they lurk, They watch my steps, As they have waited to take my life." (Psalm 56:6 New American Standard, 1995)
On the other hand, what if Big Brother was a good big brother who was not looking down on you, not looking you over, but looking out for you? It's all in the prepositions--and who's doing the looking.
There are a lot more passages that tell us:
"Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness." (Psalm 33:18, NASB95)
And who is this Big Brother?
Jesus, the one who makes us right with the heavenly Father, is “not ashamed to call us brothers (or sisters!) saying, 'I will proclaim Your name to My brethren, In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise.'” (Hebrews 2:11-12, NASB95)
Father, when we are wearied by people who are waiting, watching to see if we'll mess up, we find refuge in Your Son watching out for us, to pray on our behalf. In His name we give You thanks, Amen.
