2 Corinthians 4:4 & 6 - Source of Light

There's at least a couple of ways to safely watch a solar eclipse. One time as an adult, I wore a welding helmet. But when I was a kid, a teacher showed us how to make a pinhole camera. You simply take a box and poke a hole in it with a pin. Okay, it's a bit more sophisticated than that, but not by much. Google it and you'll find instructions.

We use pinhole cameras or welding helmets because "Don't stare at the sun" is a lesson that is taught about the same time we're taught "Don't touch a hot stove."

Looking directly at God's glory is just as impossible. Those that got a glimpse of God (Moses, Ezekiel, Daniel, Isaiah, John) all fell on their faces. They didn't dare look. (Exodus 34:5-8; Isaiah 6:1-5; Daniel 10:8-9; Ezekiel 1:26-28; Revelation 1:12-17) As God told Moses, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” (Exodus 33:20, New American Standard 1995)

So how are we to approach God? How do we know what He looks like if He "shows up" like He's promised to do, when we need Him?

He did "show up" when He come to earth as a man, Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 4:4 & 6 (New Living Translation) — 4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. ... 6 For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

If you want to know what the glory of God is like, look at Jesus. I don't mean look at icons or Sunday School pictures. What I mean is read Jesus' biography. There are four different versions, call the Gospels. They tell us what Jesus was like, and in describing Jesus was see what God's glory is like.

Father in heaven, Pique our interest to read the Bible for ourselves. Not just listen to sermons about it or read books about it (or even listen to devotionals about it!) As we read Jesus' biography, open our eyes to see "the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." In His name we pray, Amen.
