Ephesians 4:3 - Love At Work

Ephesians 4:3 encourages us to make "every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace." (NET Bible)

While this instruction is aimed at people in church, it applies to Home Health & Hospice, too.

When we think of "working hospice," we think of caring for patients, driving to their place of residence, writing charts, etc. But getting along with each other is work, too. That's why Paul says, "make every EFFORT to keep the unity..."

I've seen more cooperation between staff since COVID-19 hit, and particularly when we're short-staffed. For example, nurses sharing the workload, etc. But it's only human that when the stress level goes up, relationships can feel the strain.

The context of that verse points out factors that support getting along: humility, gentleness, patience, tolerance. And tying them together: Love. (Eph 4:2)

Love itself takes work. It's not the kind of work you can put on your timesheet, but it's what makes the rest of the job much easier... even enjoyable.

I'm trying to say to all of you: Great job; keep up the good work!

God in heaven, you loved us before we even aware of it, before we loved anyone else. So we turn to you to fill us up with the kind of love that overflows to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
