Genesis 8:22 - The Blessing of that White Stuff
About a week ago, I spent a good part of the day raking leaves, mowing the lawn, hauling dirt, and getting things ready for winter. None too soon!
Unfortunately, I pulled a muscle or two in my back that are still aggravated. So while I enjoy seeing snow on my lawn yesterday, I was not particularly thrilled with having to scoop "that white stuff" from my drive and sidewalks.
Regardless, I've usually enjoyed living in the midwest where there's a definitive change in four seasons.
After God flooded the earth, He promised Noah He would never do that again. Not only did He designate the rainbow as a reminder of that promise, He also said,
“While the earth remains,
Seedtime and harvest,
And cold and heat,
And summer and winter,
And day and night
Shall not cease.”
(Genesis 8:22, New American Standard)
I don't know if Noah every saw snow, but he did see a change in seasons!
God, Forgive us for griping when the weather is "too hot" or complaining when it's "too cold." Give us grateful hearts for the changing seasons, the turning from night to day and back again... reminders of Your unending, ongoing faithfulness toward us. Amen.
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Great is Thy faithfulness,
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
