Isaiah 40:31 - Just Waiting
"He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:29–31, English Standard Version)
Last week, I was sharing with friends that it's okay that we're not always flying or even running. It's alright that sometimes all we can handle is to keep walking.
But this passage gives us something prior to any of that:
"They who WAIT for the Lord shall renew their strength..."
Waiting implies a passage of time. It means that somewhere between "falling exhausted" and regaining strength to move ahead, there is a time of waiting for God to renew us. It's not instantaneous, it's a process.
Even Jesus had to wait three days for the resurrection!
All-powerful God, give us the grace, patience, and endurance we need to wait for You to renew our strength, when You energize us with your own power. In Jesus' name, Amen.
