Isaiah 40:31 - Just Walking

"He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:29–31, English Standard Version)

I've never been much of a runner. Mountain hiking is something I've enjoyed for years, but given lack of cartilage in my knees, the longer, more intense trails are a bit much. Too much. Even so, there are much younger individuals that--at a certain point--will feel the load of a challenging hike.

In the fly-run-walk image, it is all still forward motion. It would be nice to fly most of the time, run occasionally, and only rarely have to slow down to a walk. But that's not the guarantee. What God offers is renewed strength for what we need to do. We may not always look or feel amazingly strong. Maybe we're just getting from point A to point B. We're just walking. And that's okay.

God, give us whatever strength we need for whatever this day holds, whether we're flying, running, or walking. By Your mercy, Amen.
