Isaiah 40:30-31 - Three Essential Perspectives.

Yesterday, one passed within less that one hundred yards of my car. I'm always excited to see a bald eagle, and spotted one yesterday.  And my mind couldn't help but think again of...

Isaiah 40:30–31 (ESV) — 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

When we wait on God to renew our strength, He gives us the level of strength we need for the tasks at hand. And with each level of strength, there's a different perspective.

We use the expression "birds' eye view," but that could be a sparrow or a hummingbird.  Imagine what view an eagle has as it soars high over a field, higher than most other birds.

Those who fly like an eagle have very broad perspective. They can readily find their next meal and can see any threat coming from below.

Those who run have a changing perspective. As they keep running, they have a sense of what has gone on before, what is happening currently, and what lies in the immediate future.

What if the only strength we have is to walk? All it takes is the perspective to see one step at a time, where to put our next footprint. Those who walk don't have the luxury of a broad overview, or a sense of what is changing around them. But if the immediate perspective is just seeing where to next put your foot, it's all good.

God in heaven, We want to have the best seat in the house, to see everything going on around us. But if all we can see is where to take our next step, give us satisfaction and joy in know that You've given us the strength: even to do something so simple as putting one foot in front of the other. Amen.
