John 18:36 - The Non-scalable Ruler
Perhaps you've seen the news coverage of the non-scalable fence being installed around the White House, the night just before Election Day. It's indicative: not just about the White House, or its current resident. Some places of business in our cities are boarding windows, anticipating civil unrest regardless of who is voted into office.
I hope and pray that our country doesn't erupt in violence. Yet ultimately we cannot find our peace, justice and righteousness in political systems or rulers.
Jesus once told Pilate, "My kingdom is not of this world..." (John 18:36) Jesus died, came back to life, and returned to heaven to sit on His throne at the right hand of God the Father.
Jesus hasn't abdicated His throne. He hasn't been impeached. He cannot be voted out of office because He was never voted into office. Those who pledge their allegiance to His reign are citizens of a kingdom that "cannot be shaken." (Hebrews 12:28) ... regardless of what transpires with earthly governments.
"You are my King, O God" (Psalm 44:4, New Living Translation), and so I ask that Your will be done in our country. Guide us as Your people to "humble ourselves and pray, and seek You, turning from wickedness so that You might forgive us and heal our land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). In the name of Jesus, Amen.
