Luke 3:12, 14; Acts 2:37, 38 - What to do? What to do?

When some people came to be baptized by John the Baptist, he said, "Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God." They responded by asking, "What should we do?" (Luke 3:8, 10, New Living Translation)

His response was varied. It depended on their station in life. For some, he said, "If you have two shirts, give one to the poor" For others, like tax collectors, he told them to not commit fraud by inflating people's taxes and pocketing the excess amount. (vv. 11-13)

At Pentecost, the message of Peter and the apostles prompted other people to ask the same question, "What should we do?" (Acts 2:37, NLT) Peter's response was more general: "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God." (v.38)

The answer is tailored to each of us. There are bad things we shouldn't do and good things we've left undone. The basic truth is to respond to whatever God tells us to do next, or perhaps stop doing!

Lord,
I tend to start out the day with my own agenda, my own "to do" list of what I think the day should look like. Then there are the interruptions that I didn't anticipate. Maybe things I want to avoid doing. Added responsibilities, errands, emergencies, non-emergencies... they all have a way of piling up and clouding my true priorities. First and foremost, I ask that You show me what I should do. Give me eyes to see and ears to hear what You would have me to do, today.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
