Genesis 8:21-22 - The Dependable Meteorologist

Earlier this week it hit 40F degrees. Now at the end of this week, we're having a blizzard.

It made me think again of God's promise to Noah after the Flood in Genesis:
"I will never again destroy all living things. 22 As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night."
(Genesis 8:21b-22, New Living Translation)

What do those experts called "THEY"--what do they say about weather in Iowa? "If you don't like it, wait a few hours and it will change." Is God a fickle meteorologist? It would seem so, if you measure God's faithfulness by hourly temperatures. But that is ignoring the larger picture.

Yes, some summers are cooler than others and some winters are warmer than others. However, the general pattern is that the seasons come and go every year. The earth continues to rotate on its axis; the sun continues to shine every morning.

Father, when the world seems to be topsy-turvy and circumstances unstable, use the change of seasons, the setting and rising of the sun, to remind us that You always have been and always will be dependable, trustworthy, and still in charge of the universe. In Jesus' name, Amen.
