Colossian 2:2-3 - Password codes to heaven
Visit any medical office or facility, and you have to sign a statement that says you've read their privacy statement--that your personal records won't be shared with the wrong parties.
As a hospice chaplain, I have to enter a special user name and password several times before I can even check my Sanford e-mail! The same is true for any medical personnel who are legitimately accessing patient records. There are multiple protections to keep personal information... personal.
Of course, God doesn't need to sign off on a HIPAA statement. He doesn't need passwords to access our records. He knows all about us, and can be trusted with the information. (Psalm 139)
And it goes both ways! We don't need to know any special passwords or get clearance to God. Trying to understand God may seem mysterious. Yet the Bible says that "a true knowledge of God’s mystery ...is Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Colossians 2:2-3, New American Standard Bible, 1995)
If you want to understand what God is like, then look at the life of Jesus. Better than that, we are invited to not only know about Jesus, but to know Him personally. As it says in one place,
"The mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested ...which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." (Colossians 1:26–27 , NASB95)
Thank you, God, that we don't need passwords and access codes to have a relationship with You, or You with us. We open our hearts to You and ask that You open them wider. In Jesus' name, Amen.
