2 Peter 1:3-4 - Uninterrupted Supply Chain
A store in town was recently torn down. An empty lot is now surrounded by a chain link fence with signs advertising a new store "Coming Soon." Other signs invite people to "Apply Now" for jobs at the new place of employment, presumably interviewed off-location from the vacant lot. What is delaying construction? A lack of building materials, perhaps.
In 2021, it seems like everyone is talking about the Global Supply Chain being disrupted. Everything is in short supply, or--if it's available--costs have sky-rocketed: digital components, electrical conduit, lumber, chemicals, textiles. Whatever the business, people can't get all the supplies they need. Or delivery dates are much later than usual. The one person who told me he had no problem with shortages was a bricklayer! But bricks have a rather narrow range of uses. You can use them to build walls, or... build walls.
By contrast,
"By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the word's corruption caused by human desires." (2 Peter 1:3-4, New Living Translation, 2013)
Father God, we're thankful to know You as the source of all we need to imitate Your character. Help us to understand the promises of Scripture. Give us deepening faith to claim those promises to avoid evil and embrace your glory and divine character. In Jesus' name, Amen.
