Psalm 34:15; Isaiah 65:24 - On Hold: 661 minutes, 54 seconds

I've hit a personal record, on hold with an airline customer service line for over eleven hours today... and counting, as I type this. Fortunately I still have a landline; I don't have to worry about a battery running down. I left my speaker phone on while a ran an errand with my dog in tow. Came back. Fixed lunch. Graded assignments. Answered e-mails. Ate supper with my wife.  The whole time, I was on hold.

The elevator music was broken up with messages like how the airline has improved their services, and how I can get my questions answered online. Of course, the online menu ultimately says that I have to talk to a customer service representative.

I turn up the volume on my speaker phone in time to hear, "All representatives are assisting other customers. Please hold for the next available representative."

What a contrast to how God handles our prayers:

"The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help."
(Psalm 34:15, New Living Translation)

God says, "I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!" (Isaiah 65:24, NLT)

God in heaven, Thank you for not putting me on hold. I have yet to hear Your answering machine or leave You a voice mail. Whether I'm waking up or falling asleep, working or resting, I open my mind and heart to share with You, the One who never stops listening and watching over me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
