Romans 12:10 - Tacos vs Nachos
"Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." (Romans 12:10, English Standard Version)
We've spent a few days helping out our daughter and son-in-law, babysitting their nine-month old baby. Beyond babysitting, we've helped out with cooking.
I bought some hamburger, shredded cheese, seasoning, tomatoes, and tortillas. The hamburger had been frozen, so I thawed it out well in advance for making tacos the other night.
My son-in-law had something else in mind. He had us buy additional ingredients to make nachos--both with my taco-seasoned meat, and vegetarian. At first it seemed like my offer to help with cooking was for naught. But when I saw what my son-in-law had produced in the kitchen, I realized that what we both wanted the same thing. This wasn't a cooking show contest; our mutual motive was to love and honor the family.
Father, when we see love in action, use it to motivate us to love others as well (Hebrews 10:24), to "outdo one another in showing honor." In Jesus' name, Amen.
