Psalm 127:2 - Christmas Vacation

"In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for he grants sleep to those he loves." (Psalm 127:2, New International Version, 1984)

Some translation say that God gives to His loved ones while they sleep.

Either way, God doesn't expect us to work constantly. He expects us not only to sleep, but also to rest.

But this goes beyond the hours that we're asleep. It includes the hours when we don't have to work. That was the whole intent of God's people resting one day a week (Mark 2:27). It wasn't to have a vacation apart from God, but to enjoy a vacation with God (Isaiah 58:13).

Gracious Father in heaven, some of us have jobs that give us little rest. When we're not working, other responsibilities crowd our schedules and weigh us down. So we come to You, the God who never sleeps and never rests. (Psalm 121:4) When we have a break from work, relax our hearts, release us from stress ...to find rest in Your unscheduled, unending love for us. Amen.
